Let's Get Physical

Ted Miller posted this in his Pac-12 blog this morning. I thought it was a pretty good read. I decided to look behind the numbers a little bit and this is what I found.

Stanford: Total Offense and Total Defense of FBS Opponents
San Jose state: Offense 83, defense 94
Duke: Offense 65 defense 93
Arizona: Offense Defense 116
UCLA Offense 62 Defense 90
Colorado Offense 92 Defense 85
Washington State Offense 26 Defense 61
offense avg: 54.6
defense avg: 89.8

Washington: Total Offense and Total Defense of FBS Opponents
Hawaii Offense 35 defense 44
Nebraska offense 49 defense 58
Cal offense 33 defense 49
Utah offense 99 defense 25
Colorado offense 92 defense 85
Offense avg 61.6
Defense avg 52.2

The biggest thing that you notice is the quality of defenses which both of them have faced. It's no wonder Stanford's offense is being hailed as being one of the top in college football. I find Washington's offensive production, and especially the play of Keith Price and Chris Polk much more impressive to date than that of Luck and Taylor.

This game will be in no way a gimme for either team, but I feel like both the Husky Offense and the Husky defense are making huge strides each game. This team has not peaked, and will only continue to get better, whereas I really think you have seen the very best that Stanford has to offer.

I think this Saturday will tell Husky fans a lot about the direction of this program.

Prediction:
Huskies 38
Stanford 23

A Few Things You Don't Know About The Utes: Part 1

The first thing you should watch out for is that they have their own... ahem... way of celebrating. That's definitely an interesting way to congratulate a teamate.

This kind of behavior though shouldn't come as a surprise, they probably think it's normal after seeing these kinds of things from their head coach Kyle Whittingham

Go Purple, Be Gold Post-Season Awards

Things have been pretty busy here at at go Purple Be Gold, and we haven’t been able to keep as up to date as we would like, but nonetheless, we’re going to continue posting as often as is possible. Over the next few days, we are going to look back at the season, and recognize the “Newcomer (Rookie) of the Year” for offense, defense, and Special teams.

Defensive Newcomer of the Year: There is really only one choice here, and that is Hau'oli Jamora. He started the year as a back-up only receiving spot playing time. Due to some injuries, and improved play on his part, he became a full time starter after a dominant performance against Oregon State. A real athlete who at times both rushed the QB and also dropped back into pass coverage. He was constantly in the backfield disrupting plays, and by the time the Holiday bowl rolled around, was playing his best football of the season. While this may have come as a surprise to many,We here at Go Purple, Be Gold had a pretty good idea of what Jamora was capable of before the season started. His stats for the season:

Hau'oli Jamora
13 games 33 solo tackle 16 assists 49 total tackles 8.0 TFL 3.0 sacks 1 FF

Congratulations Hau’oli for receiving Go Purple Be Gold’s First Defensive Newcomer Of The Year!
